It's a challenge for the Australian squad to set fresh records.

The top summits have already been conquered.

This is the team that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, plus an additional six T20 titles, and earlier maintained nearly four years unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The secondary achievements, targeted by the record chasers, are all that remain for a squad that has won it all.

It needed up to Sunday's victory by three wickets over India for them to complete their first ODI chase over 300, taking back their record for the highest in the women's 50-over format, is, frankly, a tribute to the pitchers that have represented Australia over the last half-century.

It is hard for their hitters to maintain a record if not provided the chance.

In the end, the result of Australia allowing 330 runs was leader Alyssa Healy being given a chance to produce her most recent brilliance.

Initially recognized as the young family member of celebrated previous Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she debuted in 2010 after Australia failed to win either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups held the previous year and has seen it all through 15 successful years since.

Success in the T20 World Cup arrived three months after her bow and seven world titles have followed from 10 attempts across formats.

The tough gloveman was also there in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final defeat by India momentarily interrupted the successful run.

That loss "drove us to reevaluate our levels," Healy stated recently.

At the subsequent ODI World Cup in New Zealand, Healy made 170 against England in the title decider and was awarded tournament MVP. She made sure her country would not fail again.

Whether this latest epic knock surpassed that earlier display can be debated.

Certain people claim the reasoning behind championship match pressure. Some might respond with the difficulty that comes when facing a record target and an enthusiastic Indian fanbase of 20,000.

What's definite is this hundred was considerably tougher to predict.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 occurred when she led the batting statistics, but this performance was preceded by six games in India since the start of last month in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"For those following me in training, it's been a frustrating experience because it seemed I lacked timing whatsoever," commented Healy.

"Yet the moment you enter the playing area, your fighting spirit activate and you just lock into the competition."

Healy's fighting spirit has continuously been her key asset - and an invaluable trait in succeeding famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's rising star Kranti Gaud in recent ODI series, dismissed by the emerging pace bowler in all three matches, but on this occasion it simply offered Healy's spark.

A single was taken off Gaud's first delivery and from there the right-hander was in motion.

"The possibility to go out there and engage in competition with her and just have a bit of fun in that aspect, somewhat inspired me," commented Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 deliveries - her quickest at the global tournament - and her ton in 84 balls as she flogged anything short, striking 21 boundaries and three big hits.

By the time she was out her side needed 66 additional runs at one run per ball - an achievable target now demanding an easy conclusion.

"To chase 330 is uncharted waters so I'm happy we have the belief to achieve that now," stated Healy further.

"Hopefully we don't have to do it another time but, should it happen, we believe we can succeed."

Those words will be the ultimate thing rival teams at this tournament want to hear.

In recent days a feeling they will succeed regardless of circumstances has become more firm - this success succeeding success over Pakistan by 107-run victory despite being 76-7 at one point.

Subsequently Australia meet Bangladesh before a meeting with longtime competitors England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a last-four spot may probably be guaranteed.

It was at that stage they were eliminated from the prior year's T20 World Cup in an unexpected loss by South Africa - an encounter Healy couldn't play because of torn tissue in her foot as she led her country for the first time at an important competition.

So great is her will, she later said she wanted to have participated through the pain.

Yet even as she afterwards confessed those fitness problems have pushed back thoughts of retirement, this World Cup is likely to be her concluding event as leader in ODI cricket and she is still to achieve a world championship as captain.

Triumph in India would bring her to the top of her last major obstacle.
