Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Soldiers Table

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot including celestial beings, demons, and sinister influences growing in power within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Key plot points for the latest installment of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The third episode concluded with a dramatic pause and introduced the initial group of characters who will branch out from the main group to begin their independent quest, distinct from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team includes Teor (brought to life by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the start that keeping everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the initial installments of this story serve as an Prelude, connecting the personal journeys before splitting into three separate parties: Warriors, Strategists, and Seekers.

What Defines the Combat Party

Per the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who prefer a traditionally charged fight-heavy narrative style where diplomatic options are rare.

At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might seem out of place, but the actions of the latest installment show why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the group knows exactly where to go next after a violent opening clash with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose demise kicked off the narrative’s action—used the foes for his selfish purposes, breaking into the hidden lair, striking the rogue, and taking all the powerful objects to auction.

The traitor then settled his debts and ran away to a fortified location in the remote area, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each member has a personal reason to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the companion and best friend, wants retribution.
  • Kattigan has experience in the northern area and warns that it is a hostile place.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their position as prominent individuals in the powerful family could enable the team access areas they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, Teor pledged a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his salvation and will now follow him everywhere.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and The cleric betrayed the powerful family and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by House Halovar.

This results in them little choice but to head to the northern region in search of the antagonist.
